We believe that there is no substitute for experience...
Gymtrix is a professionally operated specialized sport facility under the direction of Nicki Chretien, Bill Rhoads and Tim Mills. Nicki and Bill are both former competitive gymnasts and each have 35 years experience as career educators in the sport of gymnastics and trampoline. Nicki and Bill, having each been decorated with numerous awards over the years for their contribution to the sport of gymnastics in Ontario and Canada, have also been elected to a variety of Gymnastics Ontario Boards and Committees and are both well respected officials in the sport of gymnastics in Canada. They also design and teach the gymnastics component for the Nipissing University Physical Education Degree program. Nicki and Bill have worked together as partners in facility and program management for close to 25 years.
Tim Mills joined the Gymtrix ownership team in June 2010 and is a graduate from Wilfrid Laurier University in both Psychology and Business. Tim is a former gymnast and competitive diver. He was also a 'show' water skier as well as a National Coaching Certification Water Ski Coach. Previously, Tim has held the position of V.P. of Coaching Development for the Ontario Waterski Association. Gymtrix is the only gymnastics centre in town which is operated by experienced professionals who have postsecondary education in sport, gymnastics, and business.
Gymtrix was incorporated in 1998, and after 12 years at its Gormanville location, has moved to a magnificent new location at 7 Ferris Drive. The primary service provided by Gymtrix is gymnastics and trampoline instruction for all ages and levels, including custom designed programs for beginner to elite athletes in other sports such as freestyle skiing / snowboarding / wake boarding, hockey, dance and figure skating. Gymtrix also has the highest level of competitive training opportunities in North Bay with teams ranging from invitational to national stream - competing regionally, provincially, nationally and internationally over the years. They are the only club in town who has had an athlete earn a full gymnastics scholarship to an American University. Additionally, Gymtrix is the number one provider of daycamps, parties, special needs programs and school field trips in North Bay, Ontario, Canada.
BILL RHOADS - Bill has a degree in Physical Education from the University of Western Ontario and has over 35 years of coaching experience. In his early years, he coached the University of Western's Varsity team and then spent many years at the London Gymkips where he was the Head Coach of the Provincial and National level Men's Program. He arrived in North Bay in 1987 and quickly became the North's most valuable coaching asset. Bill holds the highly regarded position of being a Master NCCP Learning facilitator...of which there are very few in Canada. He is a teacher of teachers in our sport and over the years, has authored many papers and manuals. Bill is also a former Chairperson of the Men's Technical Committee of Gymnastics Ontario and is a well known nationally for his expertise regarding gymnastics facilities, having assisted with the design and improvement of many gyms in Ontario. In 2006, Bill was honoured with the very prestigious Gymnastics Ontario Special Achievement Award for his significant contribution to the sport of Gymnastics in Ontario. Currently, he is a member of the Gymnastics Ontario Standards and Ethics Committee which deals with child protection in our sport. He is also the Ontario liaison to Gymnastics Canada involving National Coaching Certification Programs. When not managing the Gymtrix facility or coaching at the elite level, Bill can still be found spending time with toddlers and their parents in the Tall and Small program. To this day, even after attaining the highest level of coaching certification in Canada, teaching 'baby gymnastics' when he can find the time, remains as one of his favorite things to do!
NICKI CHRETIEN - Nicki is a former competitive gymnast and began her coaching career close to 35 years ago as a volunteer leader at the North Bay YMCA. She founded a small 'after school' competitive gymnastics team while she was still in high school (which later became the Apollo Gymnastics Club). While still in highschool, Nicki brought local gymnastics to the provincial level and coached her first athlete to a provincial stream medal before graduating. Nicki then attended the Seneca College specialized elite coaching program and studied under several Canadian Olympic coaches as well as members of the National Women's and Men's teams. Years later, Nicki was invited to be a member of the advisory committee for the coaching program she had participated in. She also coached in several clubs in the Greater Toronto Area. In 1986 she moved to British Columbia to accept a position of provincial and national stream choreographer and beam coach for the Abbotsford Twisters Gymnastics Center. While in British Columbia, she was honoured with several choreography awards. After returning to North Bay, she continued her coaching career. She was one of the primary choreographers for the Ontario Winter Games Opening Ceremonies hosted by North Bay in 1988. In 1998, Nicki and Bill decided to live their dream and open a private gymnastics centre now well known as Gymtrix. A few years after opening Gymtrix, Nicki became a business planning consultant. She assisted entrepreneurs from all over the world with their gymnastics centre Business Plans. Today, clubs from across Canada, the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Ukraine have been able to open their doors using her business plan guidance. Nicki has been member of the Gymnastics Ontario Board of Directors since the mid 1990's having been elected from a membership over over 85,000 members. In 2002, Nicki was awarded the Ontario Sly Apps Special Achievement Award by the Sport Alliance of Ontario. Then, in 2003, Gymnastics Ontario presented Nicki with the Jay Gold Award - one of it's most highly regarded honors awarded by the Federation. At Gymtrix, Nicki coaches competitive (invitational to national stream) and when not coaching, oversees the business and administrative side of Gymtrix with husband Tim Mills. Together with their office team, they strive to ensure that every member receives customer service that is nothing less than excellent.
